International Festival of Traditional Music
Sounds of Eurasia

Organized by the East-Siberian State Academy of Culture & Arts with Prof. Victor Kitov as the Art Director, the Festival is aimed at promoting academic studies on Eurasia traditional music and instruments and strengthening exchanges among cultural leaders, musicologists, musicians and composers of Eurasian countries. The Festival featured this year musical instruments of Guzheng, Sanxian and Di, and the first cultural group from Taiwan, the Ensemble of the National Chinese Orchestra of Taiwan (NCO Taiwan), was invited to the Festival this year on the recommendation of ICAA-IOV Taiwan. The delegation was formed with eight musicians, representative from the National Center for Traditional Arts, a music scholar, and representatives from ICAA-IOV Taiwan.

International groups and scholars from Russia, Buryatia, Mongolia, Japan, Taiwan, Belarus, and Latvia took part in the Festival at concerts, master-classes, scientific conference, music instruments exhibition, and excursion to the world famous Lake Baikal at the end. NCO Taiwan presented two sets of repertoire: "Glamour of Formosa" for the opening concert on Sep. 15, "Taiwan Contemporary" on Sep. 18, and a Joint Concert for the closing ceremony on Sep.19. The repertoire consists of Nanguan, Beiguan, Holo, Hakka and aboriginal music from Taiwan, showing the diversified music heritage on the island. The interactions among the participants are very fruitful and beneficial to all the participants.
