2010 Hengchun Folk Song & Music Festival

  The 3rd edition of Hengchun International Folk Song & Music Festival will be held from August 21 to 29, 2010 in Pingtung County, Taiwan. The Festival is organized by the Pingtung County Government with the sponsorship of the Council for Cultural Affairs (CCA) and Bureau of Tourism, with the Cultural Affairs Department of Pingtung County as the executive organizer and ICAA Taiwan as the international programmer and coordinator.

  The theme of the 2010 Festival "Sound of the Mountains" will feature the rich folk song heritage of the world created by people in response to their environment and interaction with the great nature, with the purpose to inspire the general public to cherish our folk song music as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity and to protect our commonly shared natural environment on earth.

  The programs of the Festival include opening/closing ceremony, concert hall performance, community performance, presentation of folk song culture at the Folk Song & Music Conference on August 20 by one folk song expert/scholar, music exhibition and fairs, visit to the annual traditional celebrations of Ghost Festival – Hengchun Chian Ku, etc.

  The Festival will invite international folk song and music groups which can present the folk song music heritage of their country/region, mainly generated from mountainous areas, in both traditional and renovated ways. The group should consist of not more than 10 members. Interested groups should send introductory and demo information (performance photos and video) to ICAA Taiwan no later than April 15.
