Time  : Between July and August
Place : Hualien County and Taitung County

The Ami tribe is the largest of the island's aboriginal groups. They live mainly along the eastern coast in Hualien, Taitung, and Pingtung counties. The most important tribal observance is the "Harvest Ritual" which dates vary from village to village according to their crop times and customs. The rituals last from one to seven days, usually in July or August, with different cultural traits in each village.

The purpose of the Harvest Ritual is to present gratitude to the ancestors for the blessings of the year, to pray for a bountiful harvest and the safety of the village in the coming year. The elaborate singing and dancing celebrations are particularly important, when the villagers put on their beautiful traditional costumes, sing and dance together in celebration of the millet harvest, in remembrance of ancestors, and in teaching the young generation the significance of passing down their traditions. The festival also provides a social occasion for young boys and girls to meet and interact.

Following the change of the society, many Ami people have moved to cities and large towns to live and work. Thus, some traditional rituals also take place in urban areas nowadays, to reunion the tribal people with singing and dancing. To take part in the rituals held in the villages, one can deeply experience the significance of the rituals and ceremonies in the Ami people's life and culture.
